Sumer Singh graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in 2008. While gaining industry experience and his Professional Engineer designation, he spent his free time studying at Emily Carr University in Vancouver and the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. In 2013, he decided to go back to his family roots in art and design. MTHARU, which comes from his family name, means sword hilt maker. His ancestors were blacksmiths, goldsmiths, weapon makers, ivory workers, artists, authors, poets and so on. His studio in Calgary is based on creative problem solving and material exploration.
